Spring has sprung, and you can indulge your California dreams while wandering through Sonoma County’s blooms at Hotel Healdsburg during a Wildflower Walk. Bookings are available through May 31, at this luxury boutique hotel, with a gourmet picnic lunch from Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen and private guided walks among yellow buttercups, blue-eyed grass, purple lupine, blue iris, brilliant orange poppies and wild pink roses. The 1.5- to two-hour walks are led by Karen Austin, a local trail guide and certified health coach. Austin tailors walks to accommodate the specific interests and fitness levels of participating guests.
“Sonoma County has such a diversity of vibrant spring wildflowers that appear in breathtaking big spreads on the rolling hillsides or poke up along the trail,” said Circe Sher, co-founder, Piazza Hospitality. “This experience offers our guests an authentically local excursion with a true expert in local guide Karen Austin; and a delicious meal, in a beautiful setting, to follow. It’s the perfect spring activity.”
Located centrally in picturesque Healdsburg on the town square, the hotel’s 50 guestrooms and suites feature uniquely local touches, such as cloudscape paintings by locally based artist Wade Hoefer, and custom furniture crafted from ancient bay laurel wood. Choose a suite with multiple balconies overlooking the town’s historic plaza, bask in the tranquil indoor-outdoor spa and take advantage of the offerings at the hotel’s sister properties just a short walk away.
Wildflower Walk escapes are available for two to six guests, with pricing beginning at $200 for the picnic lunch and private guided walk for two people, and $50 for each additional guest. Walks must be reserved at least 72 hours in advance.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
