New York City’s largest free outdoor performing arts festival, Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage, brings nearly 100 shows to Central Park and 17 neighborhood parks this summer, with 200 artists and stars across a range of genres. SummerStage prides itself on offering a gender-balanced festival.
The 2019 festival season kicks off in Central Park June 1, with performances from R&B singer-songwriter Emily King and soul revival band Durand Jones & the Indications. Throughout the summer, the festival recognizes several big New York City anniversaries, including the 100th birthday of the Harlem Renaissance, the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and more.
The SummerStage flagship venue in Central Park reopens this season following a $5.5 million transformation, which includes new lighting, seating and sound systems. Other parks where you can catch SummerStage performances include Brooklyn Bridge Park, Jackie Robinson Park, the Socrates Sculpture Park, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park and others.
