The 11th Annual International Black Film Festival of Nashville will take place Oct. 5–8 in America’s Music City. On opening night, festival attendees can enjoy a screening of Marshall, directed by Academy Award nominee Reginald Hudlin. The critically acclaimed feature follows the life of Attorney Thurgood Marshall and his path to becoming the first African American Supreme Court Justice. After the screening, a live Skype Q&A with Hudlin will take place at The Johnson on the Belmont University campus.
Along with screenings of independent and studio films, there are workshops and panels including The Real Justice League: Superheroes of Civil Rights & Social Justice; #IssaHit: Diversity Commands a Big Pay Day; The Crossover: Diversifying for Profitability in Music, Film, TV & Gaming; and My Projects’ For Sale: What’s My Next Move? Panelist and special celebrity guests include actress and director Gabourey Sidibe, music artist Fred Hammond, music producer Jerome “Knobody” Foster, Swirl Films’ Eric Tomosunas, actress Victoria Rowell and comedian-filmmaker Akintunde. Event venues include the Sheraton Grand, Watkins College of Art, Design & Film and the R. Milton & Denice Johnson Center at Belmont University.
