Historic Chicago Hotel Debuts Expansive Facelift

Oct 13, 2015
Daily

A landmark destination since the 1960s, The Drake Hotel Oak Brook is located just outside of Chicago’s bustle. During its illustrious past, the hotel provided lodging for high profile guests including the King of Italy, Prince Charles and film star Rock Hudson. Closed in 2009, the property was purchased in 2013 by husband and wife team Jim and Tely Nagle and completely restored to its earlier splendor. The hotel crest Ubi Tempus Quietus translates to “where times rests,” and sums up the Nagle’s goal of creating a haven within each of the 84 guestrooms and public spaces — including the lovely new Flower Terrace.

Guestroom WiFi is complimentary. Vintage dining rooms chairs and woodwork were completely restored during the renovation, along with the American History mural-like wallpaper in the Breakfast Room. Sundays, an elegant Champagne Brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Full meeting and event services are available, with 11,300 square feet of flexible space; plus both major Chicago airports are within a 20-minute drive. Nearby golf options just a few minutes from the hotel include the Oak Brook Golf Course, Butler National Golf Club/Country Club, Fresh Meadow Golf Club, Meadowlark Golf Course and the Chicago Highlands Club.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
