If you have ever wondered why visiting Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport feels more like visiting a small country, it may makes sense to know the airport was been named the world’s busiest of 2015.
Based on data from Airports Council International, Atlanta’s airport saw more traffic in 2015 than any other airport in the world. More than 101 million people departed and arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson, a number revealed by the council’s 2015 World Airport Traffic Report.
The statistics from 2015 show an increase of 5.5 percent from the data gathered in 2014, a year during which Hartsfield-Jackson also was named the world’s busiest airport. As the numbers continue to grow each year, Atlanta has continued to reclaim the title for the past 18 years.
The centrally located airport serves as a gateway between major U.S. cities and points abroad. Eighty percent of Americans can access the airport within a two-hour flight, making Atlanta a likely stopover at some point during any given itinerary.
In second place, Beijing Capital International Airport welcomed 89.9 million passengers, followed by Dubai International Airport, considered one of the fastest-growing airports with an increase of 10.7 percent from 2014’s report.
