Rugged and remote, Newfoundland is the perfect challenge for female travelers searching for a personal testing ground. Two new itineraries from Wild Women Expeditions (founded in Newfoundland by owner Jennifer Haddow) delve into the landscape and history of this beautiful region.

The seven-day Newfoundland Gros Morne Multi-Sport Adventure allows participants to experience this destination while hiking, sea kayaking and chilling on a boat tour of a fjord, reached by traversing an area of bogs and limestone ridges.

Departures are in the summer and fall, with prices beginning at $2,695 CAD (about $2,110) per person, based on double occupancy. Included: six nights in an oceanside cabin, all meals, guided hikes with female guides, ground transportation, a park pass and a boat tour of the Western Brook Pond Fjord.

During the eight-day Icebergs and Arts Adventure, participants take part in guided hikes and interpretive walks through Gros Morne National Park, along the Great Northern Peninsula; hiking Philips Garden at Port aux Choix National Historic Site to view ancient Dorset Paleoeskimo settlements; visiting the Myra Bennett Heritage House; embarking on an iceberg and whale watching boat tour; and visiting the Viking history at L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. Prices begin at $2,695 CAD (about $2,110), based on seven nights’ shared accommodation in a wilderness lodge, seaside cabins and an authentic historic house.

Departures are in June and July. Included: all meals, guided and outfitted sea kayaking, guided hikes and interpretive walks, an interpretive tour and lunch and the Western Brook Pond Fjord boat tour.
