As travel credit cards began to offer new perks during the pandemic, experts at NerdWallet launched a Testing Credit Card Perks series to determine the value of the new perks. The first analysis tested the benefits of DoorDash and Uber Eats restaurant delivery among the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred and Platinum Card from American Express.
Both Chase cards include 12 months of DashPass from DoorDash, a $120/year value. By using DoorDash with DashPass, cardholders received the best deal and a cheaper order total every time than with Uber Eats. DoorDash also has a lower delivery fee, 5 percent when combined with DashPass and 11–12 percent without. UberEats always charges a 15 percent fee. Chase Sapphire Reserve offers $120 in statement credits with DoorDash, $60 in 2020 and $60 in 2021.
On the other hand, the Platinum Card from American Express has $200 in annual Uber Cash credits, $15 monthly with a $20 bonus in December. While Amex cardholders may pay more through Uber Eats because of the service fee, they can maximize the $15 monthly UberCash credit by opting for restaurants that waive delivery fees. Be sure to use the monthly credit because if the Uber Cash isn’t used each month, it expires.
The testing group consisted of five people who each live in a different U.S. city, either Los Angeles, Miami, Oregon City, Seattle or San Francisco. Each participant also has to meet the following criteria: DoorDash and Uber Eats offer restaurant delivery to their addresses; screenshots to be provided of a sample food delivery from DoorDash and Uber Eats for the same restaurant on the same day; and screenshots to be provided that show the itemized food order along with any additional taxes/fees added.

We took a taxi to the Halekulani from the airport. At the entrance, the Halekulani team was ready, willing and able to take our bags and swiftly set us up for registration, escorting us to our room, No. 1657. I had last stayed at the Halekulani years earlier, and I have a lot of fond memories. Halekulani is a mainstay on the edge of Waikiki, and I have always considered it a haven from all the bustle. You can walk almost anywhere and return for the serenity here.

ON THE GROUND: I was invited to fly to Doha to see the unveiling of the new plans for the expansion of Hamad International Airport. Due to a family commitment, I had to leave a little later than others who were attending, and I therefore only had a few days in Qatar. The timing of this flight in the evening was perfect and allowed me to fulfill my family duties and then head to Philadelphia International Airport. I really am pleased and feel fortunate we have this direct service from Philadelphia to the Middle East; it makes travel so much easier, and the Qatar Airways service is super.
