Cultural Attractions

Visit Finland’s most popular art museum, The Ateneum, recently reopened following a brief renovation. Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma’s current exhibit Tom of Finland showcases revolutionary works depicting gay men at a time when homosexuality was a crime. The exhibit runs through Oct. 29. The Helsinki Biennial international art event takes place throughout the city, June 12–Sept. 17.

Summer Festivals

World Village Festival takes place May 27–28. This multidisciplinary event features music, art, discussions and other cultural activities. Sideways is a music festival hosting about 70 local and international performers. The festival takes place June 8–10. Celebrate the summer solstice at Seurasaari Midsummer Bonfires. Held June 22–24, this festival features traditional activities including the raising of the Midsummer pole and folk dancing. Helsinki Pride Week will be held June 26–July 2. This year’s theme is Joy & Riot. Events take place throughout the city.
