It’s time to think about holiday bookings — and if the beach is on your short list, newly renovated Hotel del Coronado in San Diego is ready to deliver. A holiday destination since 1888, “The Del” was the site of the very first outdoor Christmas tree sporting electric lights. The 2014 holiday season gets underway Nov. 26-Jan. 4 with Skating by the Sea in a rink positioned on the Windsor Lawn, with full views of the beach. A buffet-style Thanksgiving dinner will be served in the oceanfront ballroom and Crown Room.
On Dec. 3, Santa and his elves make an appearance beneath the iconic red-roofed turrets of the hotel, followed by a private fireworks display. A Victorian Tea will be served from noon to 4 p.m. daily from Dec. 13–24 and 26–31. Holiday recreation activities for young guests include cookie decorating, scavenger hunts, crafts and Kidtopia Camp. Nightly Elf Tuck-Ins are also available at bedtime, with a visit from one of Santa’s helpers to make sure all is cozy and safe for dreamtime.
