In conjunction with the Downton Abbey film release, Viking Cruises offers new experiences at Highclere Castle and several other filming locations.
Starting in 2021, Viking guests can book a Great Homes, Gardens & Gin pre- or post-cruise extension, which takes guests to several country estates. The extension is available with either the Rhine Getaway river cruise or the British Isles Explorer ocean cruise itinerary.
Guests enjoy exclusive tours of Highclere Castle, Broughton Castle, Highgrove House and Chavenage House, known for its appearance on the Masterpiece series Poldark. The itinerary also includes tastings of the new Highclere Castle Gin and a trip to Bombay Sapphire Distillery.
“Many of our guests were introduced to both Viking and Highclere Castle while watching the Downton Abbey series. For this reason, we are linked in the minds of many Downton Abbey fans,” said Karine Hagen, executive vice president, Viking. “Partnering for the release of the new film is a natural extension of our close relationship with Highclere Castle and our close personal friendship with the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon — with whom we proudly created Viking’s highest-rated cruise extension.”
