Located on the Place de l’Europe on the Kirchberg in Luxembourg City, the Philharmonie Luxembourg is considered one of Europe’s best-loved concert halls. Since its doors opened in 2005, it’s been the setting for more than 3,500 events attended by 1.5 million visitors. On May 5, The Vegetable Orchestra will return with its unique instruments carved from actual vegetables. Founded in 1998 and based in Vienna, this world-renowned ensemble — made up of 11 musicians, one video professional and one sound technician — explores music styles from free jazz and experimental electronic to contemporary and beat-oriented house tracks created from fresh, raw vegetables.

Concert-goers won’t go home hungry: The vegetable instruments are used to prepare a soup served to the audience at the conclusion of the concert. Also coming up in May, the far more conventional Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, under the direction of Valery Gergiev, presents Concert de Gala Croix-Rouge Luxembourgeoise, and the Ensemble Masques will perform works by Telemann.
