American Airlines and US Airways launch the three-month process of merging their reservations systems this weekend, marking the beginning of the end for the US Airways brand. The changeover is slated for Oct. 17, with the final US Airways flight expected to be Flight 434, a red-eye slated to depart San Francisco around 10 p.m. Oct. 16 and land in Philadelphia around 6 a.m. Oct. 17. “We’re going to be one airline for our customers,” said Maya Liebman, chief information officer, American Airlines. Beginning July 18, all flights booked for travel Oct. 17 and beyond will be labeled as American flights in the reservation system, even if the flight is booked on usairways.com.
