It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Superman … at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The superhero — who was created in Cleveland — is now one of the first things travelers encounter thanks to a new permanent exhibit at the airport.

Head to carousel 10 in baggage claim and you’ll easily spot the display. It features a 7-foot-high Superman standing proudly, his muscles bulging in his tight, bright blue, red and gold costume with red cape and prominent “S” across his chest – under the banner “Welcome to Cleveland – Where the Legend Began.”

The exhibit uses classic comic book bubble signs and historic video to detail the creation of the iconic DC Comic book character — by Cleveland-ites Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, during the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Fans can pick up Superman trivia such as the fact a young model, Joanne Kovacs, was the inspiration for Lois Lane. She also later became Mrs. Jerry Siegel.

Those who want to know more about the Man of Steel are directed to points of interest around the city, including to the Glenville neighborhood, where the creators lived and where there is an official Ohio Historical Plaque commemorating Siegel and Shuster.

The airport display was funded by fan contributions to the Siegel & Shuster Society, a non-profit dedicated to commemorating and celebrating the creation of Superman.
