United Airlines will return to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport in 2021, marking its first time serving the airport in five years. From Feb. 1, 2021, United will offer service from New York to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO), with two daily flights to each city, with the exception of Tuesday and Saturday. On those two days, one flight will be available to each city.
A reconfigured Boeing 767-300ER will include lie-flat seating in premium cabins, and will operate out of Terminal 7. An extended premium cabin features 16 additional business-class seats with all-aisle-access seating. In 2015, United turned its slots at JFK over to Delta Air Lines in a swap for Delta’s slots at Newark (EWR).
JFK recently gained additional capacity with completed runway construction and from international carriers reducing capacity, making way for United’s return to the airport. United hopes to expand service from the gateway, including to Houston (IAH) and Chicago (ORD), in the future.
United also announced it is now using the Clorox Total 360 System to disinfect terminals at 35 of the airline’s busiest airports. As part of its United CleanPlus program, the system will spray surfaces in ticketing lobbies, terminals, gate rooms, employee spaces and United Clubs. The solution is EPA-approved to kill SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
