United Airlines makes waves in the travel industry with some exciting additions, rewards and milestones. On Nov. 8, United Airlines announced it will offer more flights to Florida this winter than ever before in the airline’s history. The airline grows its schedule by nearly 20 percent compared to winter 2022, with more flights to popular Florida destinations like Orlando, Tampa and Miami.
“We know that November is when most people start their winter travel planning so we’re adding these flights to give customers more options than ever,” said Mark Weithofer, managing director, domestic network planning, United Airlines. “We’ve already begun to see record breaking demand for winter travel and whether customers are looking to unwind on the beach or hit the slopes, United is the clear choice for those planning their getaways.”
United Airlines also intends to fly larger planes with more seats to these Florida destinations, including Key West International Airport. The airline will increase service to this coastal destination between Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
The airline found, according to new search and booking data, Miami and Orlando comprise two of the top five most-searched domestic travel destinations this winter. As a result, the airline not only increases service to Florida cities but also plans to fly one of its newest planes, the Airbus 321neo, on select routes to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO) and Fort Myers (RSW).
New flights aren’t the only exciting additions coming to United Airlines. Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, the airline increases the number of premier qualifying points awarded on qualifying purchases with United MileagePlus credit cards issued by Chase.
Soon, cardmembers can earn 25 premier qualifying points for every $500 in qualifying spending on MileagePlus credit cards. Currently, cardmembers earn 500 PQP for every $12,000 in card spending, but the new change means members can earn up to 100 more PQP for the same $12,000 in spending. All card-earned PQP will then count toward each status level, including the PQP-only requirement for Premier 1K status.
Qualifying requirements for elite status will not change.
Additionally, United Airlines will soon see current Premier members receive automatic PQP deposits to get a “head start” in earnings status for the next year. These deposits will total 250 for Premier Silver status, 500 for Premier Gold, 750 for Premier Platinum and 1,250 for Premier IK. This incentive rolls out Feb. 1, 2024.
Do you plan to travel to Florida this winter? What are your thoughts on the additional services to these destinations? Are you a United MileagePlus cardmember?
