The first non-stop service between the United States and Greenland in 20 years is officially underway thanks to United Airlines. The airline launched the new route June 15, connecting Newark Liberty International Airport with Nuuk International Airport.
In fact, the inaugural flight sold out faster than any past United Airlines inaugural flight in history.
The last airline to fly between the United States and Greenland nonstop was all the way back in 2007, when Air Greenland flew between Nuuk and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
The new route is operated via a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in a three-class layout. The service will operate on a twice-weekly basis this summer. The flight marks part of United Airlines’ largest international expansion ever.
