United Airlines recently announced plans to begin service to eight new cities, marking the airline’s largest international expansion in its history. The airline will provide passengers the chance to visit Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (ULN); Kaohsiung, Taiwan (KHH); Palermo, Italy (PMO); Bilbao, Spain (BIO); Madeira Island, Portugal (FNC); Faro, Portugal (FAO); and Dakar, Senegal (DSS).
Starting next May, United will first launch five new non-stop flights from Newark (EWR) to destinations no other U.S. airline serves, such as Nuuk, Greenland (GOH), which begins service June 14. United Airlines also adds three new non-stop routes from Washington, D.C. (IAD), and new seasonal, non-stop flights to Nice, France (NCE), and Venice, Italy (VCE).
“No other airline gives customers nonstop access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United,” said Patrick Quayle, senior vice president, Global Network Planning and Alliances, United Airlines. “Our network provides the most choice and variety for our customers, whether they are looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel or to explore some of the most vibrant urban escapes across the globe.”
These new flights will see United’s summer 2025 trans-Atlantic schedule be the largest in its history with more than 760 weekly flights. The airline will also begin its scheduled service to destinations like Athens, Greece (ATH), and Barcelona, Spain (BCN), earlier next summer.
Additionally, United Airlines will increase the number of weekly direct flights between Newark and Palma de Mallorca, Spain (PMI); Newark and Dubrovnik, Croatia (DBV); and Newark and Athens, Greece.
United Airlines will be the only U.S. airline to serve Mongolia, with seasonal, non-stop service from Tokyo (NRT) launching May 1. Mongolia’s new Welcome to MonGOlia campaign showcases Ulaanbaatar as the gateway to some of the country’s most untouched lands, featuring reindeer sleigh rides, camel racing and dramatic landscapes.
Next year will also see the airline fly to more destinations in Africa than any other U.S. carrier with its Washington/Dulles–Senegal flight, launching May 23. This year-round, three-times-weekly service builds on United Airlines’ existing service to Cape Town (CPT) and Johannesburg (JNB), South Africa; Accra, Ghana (ACC); Lagos, Nigeria (LOS); and Marrakesh, Morocco (RAK).
On top of the airline’s historic expansion across the Atlantic and Pacific, United Airlines also grows its network in Mexico and Central America. The airline will be the first and only airline to connect the United States to Puerto Escondido, Mexico (PXM), with service starting April 5. May 22 marks the debut of the airline’s daily service between San Francisco (SFO) and San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO).
