United Airlines Introduces New Fleet Livery

Last week, United Airlines took the first steps to introduce its new aircraft livery to the public.

The newest update is the most recent in the airline’s 93-year history. On average, the airline changes fleet liveries every seven years. The new design features three shades of blue, the color the airline most closest associates with its core.

“As we improve and elevate our customer experience, we are changing the way people think and feel about United, and this branding captures that new spirit,” said Oscar Munoz, CEO, United Airlines. “Each improvement we’ve added to our service advances our evolution as an airline, furthering our effort to elevate and redefine customer service in the sky.”

The livery is not a total change from the current blue and gold adorning aircraft. The United globe logo, currently gold on blue, will remain on the tails of aircraft in the new blue hues. Gold was introduced nearly 30 years ago, and is now being phased out.

The first aircraft receiving the update is a Boeing 737-800. It will be joined by a mix of widebody, narrow-body and regional aircraft throughout the rest of 2019.

On the interior, the full color palette includes purple, visible on new United Premium Plus seats and in the uniforms of more than 70,000 employees.
