Many airports do not allow Uber and Lyft (and other ride share companies) to operate there, due to restrictions based on contracts with cab companies. Sure, Uber and Lyft may sneak into the drop-off or pick-up area, but they’re doing so at their own risk. However, Uber and Lyft reached an agreement with Seattle-Tacoma International Airport beginning last month. It’s a one-year pilot program for the two companies to operate at the airport with the full approval of the Port of Seattle. UberX and UberPOOl drivers are now sanctioned for picking up passengers on the third floor of the parking garage. Signs are installed to tell passengers where to go. Riders will have to pay an additional $5 fee to cover Uber’s airport fees, on top of the normal fare. Uber black cars will continue picking up passengers on the arrival deck; drivers must be licensed to pick up at the airport. Wingz, a service for pre-booked rides, also began operating from Sea-Tac last month. Airports are slowly warming up to allowing Uber and Lyft to operate, but things work a little differently at each one.
