On July 8, the Department of Homeland Security announced a new policy to allow passengers traveling through domestic airports to keep their shoes on while passing through security screening at TSA checkpoints.
The new policy aims to “increase hospitality for travelers and streamline the TSA security checkpoint process, leading to lower wait times,” according to TSA’s press release.
Other elements of TSA’s security approach will remain during the TSA checkpoint process. For instance, passengers must still clear identity verification, Secure Flight vetting and other processes.
The end of the Shoes-Off policy is the latest in a series of changes the Department of Homeland Security has implemented. On July 2, TSA announced its “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” program, which provides special benefits to uniformed service members and their families.
