The gorgeous 5-star Hotel Bel Ami rolls out the red carpet for Americans in Paris this Thanksgiving holiday. The offer, valid until Nov. 30, is for a minimum two-night stay including early check-in and check-out (subject to availability); complimentary breakfast; afternoon tea featuring pastry, organic juice and a hot beverage; and 15 percent off regular rates. Located in lovely Saint-Germain de Près, the upscale, modern décor of the boutique hotel is offset by the property’s historic structure. What now serves as the hotel’s lobby was once the private door of Pope Alexander III, which led to the Abbey Saint Germain during the 14th century. Today, two angels engraved in stone mark the doorway. The space later served as the Imprimerie Nationale, France’s printing works, where the first official document of Parliament was printed.
Surrounded by beautiful streets rimmed with antique shops and cafés, the hotel is a relaxing stroll from the Left Bank, Café de Flore and Les deux Magots restaurant, once a popular gathering place for Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Marguerite Duras and their circle of Existentialists. The Jardin du Luxembourg and the Bon Marché department store are also nearby. Inside the hotel, the Wellbeing Area includes a sauna, relaxation room, fitness area and treatment rooms where therapies feature products from Carita Paris. Like the lobby, guestrooms and suites, the on-site Restaurant Les Mots Passants includes a décor of vibrant colors — perfect with or without turkey and dressing. The Hotel Bel Ami is part of the exclusive B Signature Hotels & Resorts group.

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
