Planning a trip to Machu Picchu is no easy task. You can’t just show up on a whim and expect everything to go smoothly. There is plenty of planning and preparation that needs to be done before making the trek. Keep reading for some tips and tricks to ensure a successful trip:

Planning Process
Make sure to do your research on the different ways to get to the landmark’s entrance, as well as which path (or as they call them, circuit) you want to take. You can either do a four-day hike along the Inca Trail, hike from the bottom of the mountain in Aguas Calientes or take a bus ride up most of the mountain to get to the circuit entrances. In essence, it all depends on which method is right for your endurance and physical ability.
As for the circuits, there are three options, and each gives different access to different parts of the attraction. Circuit 1 only allows travelers to enjoy panoramic views of the historic site, but the route doesn’t provide access to explore the ruins. Circuit 2 offers beautiful views of the mountain and ruins, as well as access to explore the ruins. Circuit 3 is the same as Circuit 2, but visitors also have a chance to explore the ruins where royals used to live.
Another important detail is to research tour guides. The best way to explore Machu Picchu is with a tour guide, whether a private tour or group tour. With a tour guide, you will learn more about the history of the ruins and have a better understanding of the Inca everyday life.
With timed entrance slots, you must also plan and buy tickets for a specific time of day. (I went early in the morning, and our guide said it was one of the best times to go.)

Jun 3, 2025Now’s the Time to See Giza, the Nile and Beyond
All archaeology-obsessed eyes turned hopefully toward Egypt earlier this year when the highly anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum outside Cairo finally began welcoming visitors after construction delays, funding roadblocks and political upheaval in the region (among other factors) conspired to keep things delayed for many long years. The museum’s cherry on the top is slated to open this summer, with the July opening of the museum’s 20-plus-years-in-the-making Tutankhamen galleries and accompanying cache of some 5,000 artifacts and treasures from the boy king’s tomb.

As I write this letter, I am halfway across the Atlantic Ocean on my return from an epic golf trip in Ireland. The weather was magnificent: sunshine and no rain ... quite unusual by Irish standards. We were happy to leave our rain gear and extra warm clothing in the hotel rooms as we headed out every day.
