This summer is a great time to visit the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, as the city’s most popular cultural destination offers a huge host of programming, exhibitions and special activities throughout the summer. Additionally, the museum is open daily, including Mondays, July 8–Aug. 26, with free admission for those ages 20 and under and half-price admission for everyone, Wednesdays, 5–9 p.m.

The big exhibit for the summer is “Thierry Mugler: Couturissime”, which includes approximately 150 outfits, photographs, documents and sketches from the couturier and photographer. A complementary exhibit “Montreal Couture” takes a look at local designers and the world of Quebec fashion. Outdoor events, including music and performances, take place outside the museum as part of the Thierry Mugler exhibit.

For those who prefer African art to fashion, a new monographic exhibition focuses on the influential Omar Ba. “Omar Ba: Shared Dream” looks at the human spirit in the face of tyranny. Another art exhibit celebrates Alanis Obomsawin, and the filmmaker’s little-known talent for printmaking.

For traveling families with teens, new creative workshops are available for 15- to 20-year-olds. The workshops take place over the course of three to four days, perfect for fitting into a week-long exploration of the city. Workshop topics include photography, DIY art mediums, still life and miniature public art installations.
