The Saxon brand adds a blend of modern wellness and elegance to South Africa’s Steyn City estate with the opening of its new Saxon Spa, marking the first expansion of a South African boutique hotel outside its flagship property in Johannesburg.

Occupying 15,000 square feet across two floors, the new space features architecture planned by Amanda Elliott and Matthew Fogg of Design Collective. Evoking the elements of earth, fire, water and air, the design embraces colors from nature, including warm whites and greens reflecting the spa’s tree-filled setting. To reach the entrance, guests follow a raised walkway that acts as a portal leading to a tranquil indoor haven.

Inside, the space invites guests to surrender to relaxation in treatment rooms featuring handcrafted chandeliers created from recycled glass by environmental artist Stephen Pikus. The pool and Jacuzzi area is highlighted by a custom-made mosaic by Mosaic Art. Drawing on a centuries-old connection between water and wellness, the spa offers a state-of-the-art hydrotherapy circuit with plunge bath, sauna, steam room and heated vitality pools. There’s also a flotation pool to facilitate deep muscle release in a meditative environment.

Granted Platinum Status from the South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals, the spa’s holistic menu of therapies and treatments is overseen by spa manager Tanya Lopes.

“Having worked on this project for the last three years — from the early stages of conceptualization through feasibilities, forecasts, and budgets — it’s been an incredible journey,” said Lopes. “Shaping a bare shell into a space that reflects our vision of a holistic wellness destination has been both a professional and personal milestone.”

In addition to guided yoga sessions, restorative wellness options include sound therapy sessions on an outdoor deck. A menu of treatments features facials, a manicure bar and pedicure lounge, and massages. Guests can select from unique experiences such as the Quantum Harmonics Vibroacoustics Personalized Journey, perfect for grounding and tension release; Bellabacci Cupping Full Body Massage, with traditional cupping therapy for deep muscle release; and the Signature Revitalising Coffee and Rosemary Hammam offer, which includes a full-body coffee and rosemary scrub to enhance circulation and skin tone, a coffee clay wrap and a full-body massage with detoxifying oil.
