Ted Turner Expeditions introduces an exciting new eco-adventure to its roster of individually crafted nature and wildlife experiences featuring the opportunity to view the seasonal spectacle of the Armendaris Bat Flight in New Mexico.

The Armendaris Bat Flight excursion offers guests access to Ted Turner’s private Armendaris Ranch, where an estimated 1.6 million bats (mostly of the Mexican Free Tail variety) emerge from two massive lava caves at dusk to feed every evening from June through September. Described as a “river of bats” in the sky, the nightly phenomenon allows guests to view bats in their natural habitat.

The five-hour expedition departs the Sierra Grande Lodge, in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, at 4:30 p.m. Expert guides lead guests through the expansive 360,000-acre Armendaris Ranch before arriving at the bat caves. Guests also have the opportunity to view other wildlife such as bison, pronghorn and oryx native to the Chihuahuan desert. Group tours start from $275 per person, including a packed dinner. Private tours can be arranged for a supplemental $150 per trip.
