In Tampa, the historic Floridian Hotel opened in 1927 to great fanfare, and closed in 1989 in abject disrepair. Recently, the property has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation and restoration, and its newly polished doors have once again opened to guests — this time, as the Floridian Palace Hotel.
Once the tallest building in Florida, authentic features of this 19-story Gulf Coast landmark, where celebrities including Elvis Presley, Gary Cooper, and Jimmy Stewart once dined and slept, have been carefully restored to their original splendor. With marble floors and richly hand-carved wood details, the hotel’s lobby, Crystal Dining Room and Sapphire Lounge evoke an elegant era from Florida’s past, a heady contrast to the energy of modern Tampa just outside. Included on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel is located close to museums and convention center.
