Summer is a busy time for air travel, and delays can often be as bad as their winter counterparts.
Milecards.com recently released a study showing the on-time arrival numbers from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the past 10 years, uncovering the best and worst airports for summer flight delays.
Three of the four worst airports for on-time arrivals in summer are located around New York: Newark Liberty International Airport (66.5 percent), LaGuardia Airport (66.9 percent) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (69.2 percent) ranked first, second and fourth in worst on-time arrival percentage between 2007 and 2016, respectively.
Others in the top five were San Francisco International Airport (69 percent) and Boston’s Logan International Airport (72.1 percent).
Also in the top 10 were Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, Miami International Airport, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
Which airports were the best? Hawai’i’s Kahului (OGG) and Honolulu (HNL) airports were Nos. 1 and 2 with on-time arrivals. Others were Salt Lake City International Airport, Orange County’s John Wayne Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Portland International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, San Jose International Airport, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.
