Susquehanna River, New York

Daily

Traditions at the Glen was originally built as a private resident for Eliot Spalding and his family, the treasurer of the Edict Johnson Shoe Factory in the early 1900s. In the mid-1920s, the property was purchased by Kalurah Shriners, who built a golf course and turned the mansion into a Masonic Clubhouse. About a decade later, the property was purchased by IBM and used as a meeting space.

The property welcomed many famous names over its decades of existence, including Bing Crosby, Eleanor Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. Now, you can stay there as well, as the property joins the Ascend Hotel Collection and welcomes a wider guest base.

The 41-guestroom boutique property sits on the Susquehanna River, with its own 18-hole championship golf course and a unique full-sized foot golf course. Other amenities include a spa with Himalayan salt cave, infrared sauna, salon and meditation rooms; an on-site restaurant; fitness center; meeting and event space; and complimentary breakfast and late check-out.

The property is situated in Johnson City, New York, a short drive from Binghamton, where guests have access to art galleries, the Binghamton Philharmonic and the largest public observatory in the Northeast, the Kopernik Observatory and Science Center.

Traditions at the Glen is just one of many new Ascend Hotel Collection properties in the pipeline. Others are in the works for Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Long Island and Napa.

Amansara Review

It was more than a car journey; it was a transition between worlds. At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
