Continuing its expansion in Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts brings its ultra-luxury brand St. Regis to UNESCO’s First World Geopark, Langkawi. The location will be the brand’s 37th overall St. Regis, and the first in Malaysia, as well as the first luxury resort opening in the destination in more than a decade. With the most recent opening of The St. Regis Dubai, Starwood hopes to expand the brand’s reach later in the year with additional openings in Malaysia, as well as in the Maldives, China and Egypt.
The St. Regis Langkawi is located on the Langkawi archipelago in the Andaman Sea, only a 30-minute drive from Langkawi International Airport. The resort is the first all-suite luxury resort on the archipelago and offers four private overwater villas in addition to the 85 suites.
“The St. Regis brand remains laser-focused on increasing its presence in destinations where travelers from around the globe are seeking bespoke guest experiences, and we are thrilled to expand our portfolio in Southeast Asia with an extraordinary brand debut in Malaysia — one of the most dynamic countries in the world. The St. Regis Langkawi is set to redefine luxury hospitality on the island, from the resort’s lush, secluded location, to the iconic St. Regis Butler Service which provides guests with beyond expectation experiences,” said Jim Petrus, global brand leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts.
The resort will offer six dining venues, including Kayuputi, an Asian-inspired restaurant located in an overwater beach house. The restaurant displays a remarkable collection of art and antiques, including wooden accents reclaimed from the Dutch embassy and teak columns inlaid with camel bone.
The on-site Iridium Spa measures more than 8,600 square feet and includes an infinity swimming pool and natural saltwater lagoon.
“The highly anticipated arrival of St. Regis into Malaysia marks another milestone for the luxury brand’s expansion into Asia. With Langkawi rapidly emerging as a world-class destination, the opening of The St. Regis Langkawi will enhance the island’s efforts to become an internationally renowned luxury destination for affluent global travelers,” said Charlie Dang, regional vice president, Southeast Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
