Starwood’s SPG Keyless system debuted in 2014 as one of the hospitality industry’s first mobile keyless entry system, allowing guests to access their room via smartphone. Last week, Starwood announced the expansion of the program, with the next generation of keyless technology. Now, guests at select global Le Méridien, Westin, Sheraton and Four Points properties have access to SPG Keyless, with more properties coming later in the year. Currently, only 160 properties under the Aloft, Element and W brands offer the technology. SPG Keyless will also now enable multiple guests from the same room to use keyless entry, so long as they have their own SPG account and access to the app. The app will receive updates in the coming months. “Innovation and personalization are at the center of everything we do, and we’re committed to making travel better for every SPG member by creating solutions for paid points that are custom-made for their mobile lifestyles. SPG Keyless is literally opening doors for SPG members. It is also transformative for Starwood’s hotel associates, allowing them to better engage with guests. Rather than the first interaction being the swipe of a credit card, hotel associates can now focus on ways to better personalize guests’ stays,” said Alyssa Waxenberg, vice president of mobile, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Currently more than 350,000 SPG members are registered for SPG Keyless, with SPG Platinum members the highest users. SPG Keyless is proven most popular in urban destinations, with the top cities for usage New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas and Miami.
