Dynamic and graceful, St. Regis Mexico City looks over historic Paseo de la Reforma avenue in the vibrant capital, with 189 gorgeously appointed guestrooms and suites housed in a 31-story building designed by renowned architect Cesar Pelli.

See the city from above with the property’s exclusive helicopter service or arrange a tour of Chapultepec Castle — once home to Mexican Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota. Other excursions can include Temple of Quetzalcoatl, Pyramid of the Sun and Pyramid of the Moon in the ancient city of Teotihuacán. Prefer an unobstructed view? A tour of the city can also be enjoyed from a hot-air balloon.

Downtime at the property can be spent at the pool, working out or being thoroughly rejuvenated at Remède Spa & Fitness Center. Sip a glass of sparkly Champagne and choose from a menu of luxurious treatments including customized massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and makeup services.

Feel like staying in? You can access on-demand fitness, wellness and meditation sessions in the comfort of your room thanks to the extensive library of classes on your television. When you’ve worked up an appetite, the range of culinary venues includes King Cole Bar, fine French dining at La Table Krug, Japanese Omakase cuisine at Sushi Tatsugoro, and Mexican and regional specialties at Diana Restaurant.

For lighter fare, there’s Glass House delicatessen bistro, where the menu includes a Caprese Chapata; concha filled with Nata; red velvet popcorn; orange bread; and a selection of hot drinks such as chai, matcha and espressos. The bistro also serves a traditional Afternoon Tea Ritual with finger sandwiches, cakes, sweets and a selection of teas.

Its stone walls, earth tones, woven wall hangings and furniture made of natural materials reminded us we are part of nature’s spectrum, the abundant windows showing native plants and trees outside.

Global City Guidebook: Shanghai

The third-largest city in the world, Shanghai has transformed into one of the world’s most important centers for business, finance, science, culture and transportation. In fact, Shanghai is home to the first free trade zone in Mainland China. The city sits on the southern estuary of the Yangtze River, and the Huangpu River flows right through the 26-million-strong city. Art Deco- and Shikumen-style buildings, museums, skyscrapers, gardens, temples and food markets fill the lively, Eastern Chinese city.
