Following the devastating Easter Sunday terrorism attacks in Sri Lanka, the country’s tourism board is working hard to promote the nation as a destination.
During a recent panel at the Arabian Travel Market, Sri Lankan officials stated their faith in the Sri Lankan military to bring the situation in the country under control. Kishu Gomes, chairman, Sri Lanka Tourism said he believes the country has everything it needs to provide appropriate support, including security and safety, to the tourism industry.
Sri Lanka has not stopped any promotional activities and will continue with all planned marketing throughout 2019. Sri Lanka Tourism is confident in the country’s perceived value as a destination.
Following the declaration Sri Lanka is past the danger terrorism presents, representatives called on global tourism stakeholders to stand strong and stand by Sri Lanka Tourism in the face of global terrorism.
The attacks, officials said, are indicative of attacks on tourist destinations, and do not appear to be homegrown acts of terrorism.
Sri Lanka Tourism included a video to introduce its new tourism branding strategy, So Sri Lanka.
“Sri Lankans are among the most warm and nurturing people on earth, when guests arrive on our shore’s they become family,” said Gomes in an online release. “And when family is hurt the entire community comes together to protect, nurture, mourn and grieve and heal together. This is our way and it has been our way from the beginning of time.”
