If spring has put a… well, spring in your step, celebrate the feeling in beautiful Spain. Plan now for the Flamenco Biennial festival in Seville. The nearly month-long festival features stunning performances of Andalusia’s iconic dance form as well as live guitar music. The festival encompasses singing, poetry and a flamenco competition.
If the beaches call, head to Spain’s Canary Islands for a cultural getaway. In Tenerife, the historic town center is a World Heritage site featuring traditional architecture. Head to San Cristobal de la Laguna to wander through the streets and admire the Colonial-style mansions, or peruse the pedestrian shopping zone near the Cathedral, the Nava and Salazar palaces, as well as the convents of Santa Catalina and Santa Clara. Guided tours are available in English via the tourist office in Casa de los Capitanes Generales, but be sure to book in advance.
Often said to be the most beautiful location on the island, La Orotava is renowned for gorgeous gardens, beautiful architecture and the charming balconies of traditional houses. Visit the Casa de los Balcones, the church of La Concepción, the gardens of the Hijuela del Botánico and Marquesado de la Quinta Roja and Loro Parque. Enjoy a walking route that takes in the traditional gofio mills.
In Garachico, tour the historic convent of San Francisco, the Casa de Piedra, Puerta de Tierra park and San Miguel castle. The natural swimming pools of El Caletón are located next to the castle, while other memorable sites include the 1,000-year-old dragon tree of Icod de los Vinos, the Chinyero volcano and the dramatic cliffs of La Culata.

Jun 1, 2025On the Road
As I write this letter, I am halfway across the Atlantic Ocean on my return from an epic golf trip in Ireland. The weather was magnificent: sunshine and no rain ... quite unusual by Irish standards. We were happy to leave our rain gear and extra warm clothing in the hotel rooms as we headed out every day.
