The first Six Senses in the Americas arrives early next year with the opening of Six Senses Botanique in Brazil. In the Mantiqueira area, 2.5 hours from São Paulo and 3.5 hours from Rio de Janeiro, Six Senses Botanique will sit amid 700 acres of lush, mid-tropical Atlantic forests.
Formerly known as Botanique Hotel & Spa, the hotel was constructed in 2012 using indigenous materials like jacaranda wood, natural stone and chocolate slate. The property will adopt the Six Senses brand next year, offering seven suites in the main hotel and 13 private villas in the surrounding hills. An additional 14 villas are planned, and will be constructed off-site in a modular manner using local materials. Signature Six Senses venues, including the Experience Center, Alchemy and dining spots, will be added in 2021.
Thirty-seven branded residences, also constructed in a modular manner, will be available for purchase, with the first phase underway. Owners can access all the hotel’s facilities. A dining room is in the main building, with stellar views and suspended fireplaces. Other planned amenities include a main pool, Grow With Six Senses kids’ club activities, Earth Lab and hiking and horse-riding trails.
A fitness center, treatment rooms and wellness areas will be added to the Six Senses Spa next year; the spa currently boasts eight treatment rooms, relaxation suites, a floatation pool, CO2 bath and a tropical rain humid sauna.
“Six Senses Botanique will appeal to guests seeking an eco-retreat in nature along with authentic Brazilian design, culture and cuisine,” said Neil Jacobs, CEO, Six Senses. “We’re also putting together a program of rituals, workshops and festivals, offering time out to focus on living at ease with oneself and others in a more reciprocal way with the natural world. What a wonderful place to breathe in the peace and beauty all around to find harmony and reconnection.”

May 6, 2024Explore Portugal on a Wine Tasting Tour with a Touch of History
All it takes is one glance at the grounds of Quinta Dona Maria, which includes a grand villa and surrounding gardens, to realize wine tasting in Portugal comes with a good dose of history. The vineyard is located in Estremoz, just northeast of the first-century Roman ruins found in Evora. In 1718 King João V built this estate for his lover, Dona Maria. When she died, the current owner’s ancestors purchased the land and have been making wine ever since. Taste the wine, which is terrific, especially the full-bodied red Dona Maria Grand Reserve. Then venture inside a building that stores large amphora vases, including one dating back to the 1200s.
