Six Senses Galapagos plans to provide travelers with unique experiences that embrace the destination’s one-of-a-kind natural environment. The resort, which opens in 2021, is situated in Cerro Verde on the coast of San Cristobal Island. The island is known as the quietest of the main Galapagos Islands. Resort plans focus heavily on doing its part to restore the original endemic ecosystem, eradicate invasive species and maintain native plants.
An on-site Earth Lab and Experience Center hosts research and educational activities in conjunction with academics. An on-site observation post takes full advantage of the destination’s near-zero light pollution with fine dining and cocktails served underneath the stars. The resort’s food and beverage program is designed to minimize the need to import any produce. An on-site organic vegetable garden and relationships with local farmers and fishermen further the property’s aim toward self-sufficiency.
“Sustainability is at the core of our brand, influencing everything from ongoing community engagement and conservation efforts to the local, repurposed materials used in the development. We are excited and delighted to work… on this extraordinary project in such a special and environmentally sensitive place, staying true to our joint purpose of ecosystem restoration, scientific research of marine species and low-impact tourism,” said Neil Jacobs, CEO, Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas.
