Specialists in all things Croatia, Via Tours Croatia wants you to experience the landscape through food and wine. Available April–October, the Food & Wine Croatia Tour sets off from Zagreb and winds up in Dubrovnik. In between, take a cooking class, taste wines at four wineries, visit a cheese-making facility, enjoy local taverns, explore local olive oil producers and participate in a private boat charter to visit islands near Dubrovnik and Split. Finally, have a truffle dinner with locals while learning about Croatia’s truffle region. Prices begin at $2,850.

Other culinary-based trips include Gastro Tour of Venice and Croatia (April–October), beginning at $2,500; and Best of Croatia and Albania (April–October), beginning at $3,250. Each trip is fully customizable and guests can request an added visit to Edivo Wines, Croatia’s much-lauded underwater winery where the pressure and temperature of deep-sea water is used to accelerate the aging process of wines. Bottles are encased in clay amphorae and placed in wire mesh cages, then submerged 65 feet below the surface in the salty waters of the Pelješac peninsula, where they become encrusted with mollusks, shells and algae — making each bottle an individual work of natural art. The line of sea-aged wines is called Navis Mysterium, which translates to “secrets of the sea.”
