While The Great White North is home to some of the world’s most vibrant, historic cities, its vast swaths of beautiful, untouched wilderness and natural phenomena are unparalleled by any in the world. Banff National Park — Canada’s oldest national park — is located in the Rocky Mountains, encompassing 2,564 square miles of beautiful mountains, glaciers, ice fields, dense coniferous forests and alpine landscapes. The bright blue Moraine Lake, pictured here, offers a scenic vista of the Valley of the Ten Peaks.

The Hopewell Rocks aren’t just ordinary rocks. Erosion by the highest tides in the world caused these bewildering formations. Every day, 100 billion tons of water empties out of the Bay of Fundy, revealing the ocean floor and the renowned red rocks, completely submerged again upon the tide’s return.

The Canadian Falls — Horseshoe, American and Bridal Veil —are among the most famous waterfalls in the world — and for good reason. Ninety percent of the Niagara River flows over Horseshoe Falls, which towers 167 feet at the border of Ontario, Canada and New York.

There are several places to witness the phenomenon that is the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, but Canada offers some of the best. From the Yukon and Saskatchewan to Alberta and Nunavut, The Great White North provides prime locations to marvel at the sky’s colorful dancing lights.

Home to trees more than 800 years old, Cathedral Grove is an awe-inspiring destination on Canada’s Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The dense Douglas fir forest boasts a cluster of ancient, towering and massive trees — some as wide as 30 feet.

Whether you’re a history buff or just a Jurassic Park fan, you’ll be blown away by Alberta’s Dinosaur Provincial Park — the largest dinosaur graveyard in the world. The park is home to more than 500 fossilized species, including 40 species of dinosaurs and more than 500 specimens.

Be serenaded by the Singing Sand on Prince Edward Island, where visitors can stroll and listen to a unique whistle-like tune coming from the sand’s surface. Scientists still don’t understand the cause of the faint, melodic sound, but it’s a pleasant addition to the already lovely Prince Edward Island beaches.
