Airports are increasingly turning to biometric scanning to assist with the boarding process. Soon, every international traveler flying through San Jose Mineta International Airport will be scanned using facial recognition technology.
The airport will become the first West Coast airport in the United States to use 100 percent biometric technology for international passengers.
Currently in the United States, only Orlando International Airport uses the technology to verify the identity of international passengers. The airport implemented the technology in June.
Other airports are using facial recognition only on arriving flights: Los Angeles (LAX), San Diego (SAN), Atlanta (ATL), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK) and Houston (IAH).
San Jose airport officials said the technology will “both enhance security and expedite passengers through the inspection process at federal customs checkpoints, thereby reducing wait times for all arriving international travelers.”
