Drawing on the age-old healing properties of salt, Hawaii’s very first Himalayan Salt Room is a serious wellness addition to Hoola Spa at Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay. Crystal panels adorning the walls are actually pure Himalayan pink salt crystals, hand-mined from an ancient seabed. Containing more than 80 other minerals, the salt’s pink hue derives from its high iron oxide content, released into the salt room chamber via a special generator that reduces the healing components to minute particles.
Spa guests relax in the chamber for 30-minute sessions, breathing in the salty air — used in numerous European clinics and hospitals to aid in the treatment of chronic bronchitis, allergies, obstructive pulmonary disease, sinusitis and other conditions. Hoola Spa takes the salt experience even further, with new salt-themed body therapies that include purifying body glow scrubs with local Hawaiian sea salts.
