A true 5-star-meets-wilderness escape, The Chalet is the result of a 50-year family dream. Owners Don and Roberta Sheldon claimed the land in the mid 1950s, but the incredible property took some time to come to fruition. It took more than a decade to secure the permits to build Sheldon Chalet, and construction took another three years.

Getting there is a process: Guests fly into Anchorage (ANC), drive two hours to the tiny town of Talkeetna and then take an hour-long helicopter ride to Don Sheldon Ampitheater, a valley carved by glacial ice. The Sheldon experience, however, is well worth the trip.

The five-bedroom property sits on five private acres within the national park, ideal for experiencing all the region has to offer, from the Northern Lights and heli-skiing to snowshoeing and fine Alaskan cuisine. Each guestroom sleeps up to 10 guests and offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and Aurora Borealis through wraparound windows. The Chalet also features comfortable modern furnishings, fine dining and bespoke concierge services.
