The Solomon Islands sit in the South Pacific, between Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, with a population of 550,000 predominantly Melanesian inhabitants. Local customs and traditions remain an important part of the life on the islands. And it’s drawing interest to the destination.
The Solomon Islands tourism industry registered a 29 per cent increase in visitor arrivals for the first quarter of 2018, over the same time period in 2017. International visitation increased from 4,881 to 6,296 with January, February and March 2018 all showing positive growth of 33 per cent, plus 13.5 per cent and 36.3 per cent respectively. Australian arrivals dominate, with a strong growth also from New Zealanders. Papa New Guinea and the United States came in third and fourth.
