As part of its Asia expansion strategy, Qantas announced it will resume its Sydney (SYD)–Beijing (PEK) service, which was suspended in 2009.
The newly reinstated service will operate daily, departing Sydney at 13:50 and landing in Beijing at 22:40. The return flights will leave at 00:15 or 00:20 and arrive in Sydney at 14:55.
The 12-hour flight will operate on a 235-seat Airbus A330-200.
Beijing is the third destination in Greater China for the Australian flag carrier, joining Shanghai (PVG) and Hong Kong (HKG).
The new inbound flight schedules are designed so travellers may easily connect to destinations such as Melbourne (MLB), Brisbane (BNE), Auckland (AKL) and Queenstown (ZQN).
“It’s the perfect time for Qantas to fly to Beijing. The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement is hitting its stride and China is on track to become the number one source of visitors to Australia within the next year or so,” said Alan Joyce, CEO, Qantas.
