You don’t have to cross the Atlantic to honor the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth (though we always encourage a great global trek). The Welsh poet’s granddaughter, Hannah Ellis, recently launched a walking tour of Thomas’ favorite Greenwich Village haunts. Offered with an app, the tour was designed by Thomas’ daughter, Aeronwy Thomas Ellis and Welsh poet Peter Thabit Jones to highlight locations favored by Thomas during four visits to New York between 1950 and 1953.
The free app is available for download via iTunes and Google Play. Narrated by Welsh actor Nicholas McGaughey, the app allows users to take a leisurely self-guided tour lasting about 1.5 to two hours. In Wales, the Dylan Thomas 100 festival includes a variety of literary tours and related events, encompassing literature, art, theater and opera, in the poet’s birth town of Swansea and throughout the country.
