Passenger traffic throughout Asia and the Middle East was on the rise in June, according to a report from Airports Council International.
Traffic throughout both regions swelled. The Asia-Pacific region saw a boom of 9.7 per cent, while the Middle East saw an increase of 8.5 per cent.
In specific countries, India saw an increase of 14.7 per cent. In China, traffic grew by 10.4 per cent, buoyed by an uptick in demand for domestic and international air travel.
According to ACI, traffic in the Asia-Pacific region received a welcome boon from the timing of Ramadan.
The Middle East enjoyed the largest increase since April 2017. Similar to Asia and the Pacific, ACI attributes the increase in part to Ramadan and the timing of holiday travel.
In the first six months of 2019, the Asia-Pacific region maintained momentum at 8.6 per cent growth. During this period, China continued pursuing international travel goals. At the same time, traffic in the Middle East remained mostly flat, with 0.7 per cent growth in the region.
