Karl Lagerfeld announced the international opening of The Karl Lagerfeld Macau, a 5-star hotel located at The Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau. Set to open in June, the hotel combines stunning interiors with unrivaled hospitality. The tower is the only hotel in the world wholly designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld. Every detail in the hotel exudes his unparalleled creativity, from extravagant room decor and large-scale installations to small details like bathrobes and bedsheets. The grand opening of the new hotel will feature multiday celebrations in June.
Owned by SJM Resorts S.A., The Karl Lagerfeld Macau is the latest addition to the hospitality group’s array of hotels. The multisensory hotel experience includes 271 rooms; the Mesa Restaurant, featuring delicious bites by award-winning chef José Avillez; a Book Lounge with 4,000 hand-picked books; and a spa and wellness center, including an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
The late Karl Lagerfeld’s design concept stemmed from a sophisticated reimaging of modern Chinoiserie fused with traditional craftsmanship, bold colors and patterns, all of which meet tailored silhouettes. Each of the 271 rooms showcases influences of classic Chinese design and contemporary Western aesthetics.
For example, the custom-created headboards were inspired by auspicious Chinese coins representing good fortune, porcelain vases were made in Jingdezhen and circular room dividers draw inspiration from traditional Chinese moon gates. Reflecting Karl Lagerfeld’s passion for collaboration, specially commissioned furnishings include exquisite sculptures by Dutch artist Marcel Wanders and French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, and Terzani chandeliers.
Prior to his passing, Karl Lagefeld worked in a close partnership with SJM on the lavish hotel design for years.

Mar 26, 2025Head to Jackson Hole and Revel in the Remote Possibilities
For a city girl like me, stepping into the town square of Jackson, in northwest Wyoming, felt like walking onto a slicker set of the television show Gunsmoke. Wooden sawtooth facades surround Jackson’s Town Square (a.k.a. George Washington Memorial Park). Visitors stroll the boardwalk connecting the Western-style buildings, each with a large window displaying goods, restaurants and art galleries. Iconic arches, assembled with discarded elk antlers from nearby National Elk Refuge, perch on each corner of the town square. Stagecoaches pulled by teams of horses parade other city-dwellers around the park.

Mar 24, 2025Curling Goes Beyond the Olympics
Who knew throwing a stone or rock down a sheet of ice and sweeping it into position on a target would become so popular? Sure, it is intriguing to watch the techniques curlers use to place a stone in the center of a bull’s-eye, or house, particularly when a teammate starts sweeping the ice to further direct that stone. It takes more skill than just a good throw. Strategy, mental focus, balance and, of course, teamwork, are just the beginning of the curling skills needed to win.
