Omni Property Breaks Ground in Boston

Jun 15, 2018
News

The Omni brand broke ground on the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport; the hotel is the fourth-largest in Boston, with the area’s largest ballroom. The property opens in 2020 on the corner of Summer and D Streets, with more than 1,000 guestrooms including 52 suites, all over 21 floors. Select suites offer views of Boston Harbor.

“This project’s hotel, retail, restaurant and outdoor space is a welcome addition to Boston’s Seaport District and will lead to expanded economic opportunities for many businesses within the Commonwealth,” said Governor Charlie Baker, Massachusetts. “Our administration looks forward to continuing to work together with partners at the local level and in the private sector to support economic development in communities across Massachusetts.”

“Today marks more than just a groundbreaking, it’s a celebration of the diversity and inclusion this project represents from its design, to its contracting, to its nonprofit partners,” added Mayor Walsh, Boston. “The Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport is a welcome addition to our city, providing better public access to the waterfront, improving walkability to the area and investing in our workforce. I look forward to seeing the vision for this hotel come to life, for the benefit of Boston’s residents and visitors alike.”

Planned public spaces and amenities at the property include an all-day restaurant, collaborative workspace, lobby lounge, entertainment lounge, French brasserie, boulangerie and elevated pool bar and grill. Meeting and event space includes 100,000 square feet of ballroom, breakout rooms and outdoor and pre-function spaces. The urban rooftop pool deck on the fourth floor is also available for events with views of the Boston skyline. The Mokara Spa contains a fitness center and blow dry hair bar. A retail shop features locally sourced items.

A portion of the hotel’s proceeds benefit six local non-profit organizations, including The Edgerley Family South Boston Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston, The South Boston Community Health Center, Julie’s Family Learning Center, Ladies Involved in Putting a Stop To Inner-City Killing, The Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester and the Building Pathways Program.

“Boston is a premier destination and we are incredibly excited to be a part of the city’s continued evolution – especially in the Seaport District,” said Peter Strebel, president, Omni Hotels & Resorts. “We look forward to working together with Massport, New Boston Hospitality, Governor Baker and Mayor Walsh to establish the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport as an unforgettable destination for years to come.”

One of Hawai’i’s Most Popular (and Controversial) Attractions Being Demolished

If you haven’t actually climbed them, you’ve seen beautiful photos of them at one time or another: Hawai’i’s Stairway to Heaven, located on Oahu. The 3,922-step hike ascends Koolau Mountain Range and has been illegal to hike since 1987. But this has not stopped travelers and locals from doing so, even with a steep fine of $1,000 for trespassing.
