North American Business Travelers Love Hotel Apps

Sep 20, 2016
Daily

According to a new survey released by the Global Business Travel Association, more than 60 percent of business travelers have downloaded at least one major hotel chain app this year. More than half have downloaded at least two and about one-quarter have downloaded three or more. Business travelers use these apps most often to check their reservation, manage reward points and book stays. Baby boomers are most likely to check their reservation status, while younger travelers use hotel apps for research, including available amenities, and to order room service or contact the hotel. They also frequently use mobile apps to check in. “Hotels have room to expand the capabilities of their mobile app as well as promote increased awareness of those capabilities as the interest is there. In the future, hotels could invest in innovative new technologies, but should also continue to focus on improving existing amenities, especially WiFi as that remains most important for business travelers,” said Monica Sanchez, director of research, GBTA Foundation. The study showed more than half of business travelers use in-room WiFi for more than an hour each day during their stay for either work or leisure purposes. Generally, travelers are satisfied with connectivity speed and pricing. When it comes to the most in-demand hotel tech offerings, North American business travelers requested more power and USB outlets in guestrooms and social spaces, as well as streaming services such as Netflix and HBO Go. Other popular requests include in-room chargers, keyless entry and smart televisions. Newsletter sign-up

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
