Minor Hotels revealed some of Europe’s most intriguing late spring and early summer city breaks, with a centuries-old art and cultural festival in Frankfurt, a huge music festival outside of Copenhagen, a Canal Parade in Amsterdam and a concert series from two classical music greats in Prague among the options.

What to Do in Frankfurt
The Museum Embankment Festival (Aug. 23–25) takes place in Frankfurt, Germany, and is one of the most important art and cultural festivals in Europe. Museum buildings are arranged like pearls on a string along the river Main embankment. From architecture to modern sculpture and film, Frankfurt’s museums showcase a vast spectrum of art and cultural history. Alongside permanent exhibitions, readings and workshops, visitors can also enjoy a diverse range of fringe performances and live music. Festival highlights are the dragon boat race on the Main and a spectacular final firework display.

Where to stay: The nhow Frankfurt is a 375-room lifestyle hotel located across 14 floors of the 47-floor ONE Tower by CA Immo. Located in the city’s financial district, the hotel features a bold design and excellent views, with bedroom walls and ceilings decorated in pop art-style banknotes. Highlights include NFT Skybar and Restaurant, Germany’s highest rooftop bar; a golden staircase inspired by falling coins in the lobby; and a spa with two saunas and a fitness center.

What to Do in Copenhagen
A highlight of Copenhagen in late spring or summer is Roskilde Festival  held in Roskilde 22 miles (about 30-45 minutes) by car or train west of Copenhagen. Roskilde started in the early 1970s by a pair of high school students, and today it is the largest music festival in Northern Europe. Taking place over eight days and two weekends (June 29–July 7), the 2024 festival expects to attract about 135,000 fans and more than 150 bands. The Roskilde Festival remains a non-profit organization, donating millions of Danish krone every year to various charities. There is also a naked run at some point during the festival, so be prepared.

Where to stay: NH Collection Copenhagen offers the new ROOF– Bar & Lounge, opened in spring 2024 and is Copenhagen’s first rooftop bar, offering some of the city’s best and most remarkable views. The hotel is a 5-star property and has a stunning waterfront setting at the entrance of the lively Christianshavn district.

What to Do in Amsterdam
When the Aug. 3 Canal Parade festival returns to the city for the 27th time as part of the city’s Pride Amsterdam festivities, it will possibly be the most beautiful festival held in Europe. Expect a colorful and diverse spectacle in a class of its own. It starts at 12 p.m. and continues to 6p.m. in the center of Amsterdam. The canal route covers Oosterdok, Nieuwe Herengracht, Amstel, Prinsengracht and Westerdok.

Where to stay: The luxurious NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace is located in the heart of the city’s old quarter. Beautifully converted from several 17th-century townhouses and a 15th-century chapel, the hotel has its own canal-side boating dock. Guests can relax with a nightcap or bite to eat in the cozy Bottles & Jars Bar, or enjoy haute cuisine of Chef Tjaco van Eijken in the restaurant Vermeer.

Prague

What to Do in Prague
The city is offering a series of concert, opera and ballet pieces called the Best of Mozart & Straus. The series is held July 3–8 in several of Prague’s best concert halls, and visitors can buy tickets online to see as many of the performances as they can fit into the time period. Joining the musicians on stage is a celebrated soprano and ballet dancers.

Where to stay: Conveniently located a short walking distance from Old Town Square, visitors will find 5-star NH Collection Prague Carlo IV perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the city. The elegant rooms in this former bank building are contemporary in style, and guests can relax in the wellness spa, one of the city’s biggest. The wood-clad Vault Bar is a unique venue in the renovated former bank’s vault and serves great cocktails, while the 1890 Restaurant features traditional Czech cuisine.

Global City Guidebook: Budapest

Hungary’s capital city, with a population of 1.7 million, also serves as the country’s cultural, industrial and commercial center. Visitors have been drawn to this Queen of the Danube for more than 2,000 years, first for its thermal, therapeutic waters and, today, for its stunning architecture, rich history and decadent culinary traditions.

Drinks Mix History with High-Proof Fun in the Mile-High City

LoDo, or Lower Downtown, is a fascinating juxtaposition of Denver’s heritage and its modern renaissance. Former 19th-century, red-brick warehouses stand next to a dairy repurposed into an entertainment microdistrict, while Larimer Square, the city’s oldest commercial block, keeps attracting exciting food and beverage tenants. The neighborhood falls in the shadow of Coors Field, driving home the fact a tall cold one is never far away. Canned lager might hit during an afternoon Rockies game, but LoDo has much more to offer the thirsty visitor — all in a blissfully walkable several-block radius.

Mirazur by Mauro Cologreco Review

Mauro Colagreco, the Argentinian-born chef who moved to France in 2001, perfected his skills working with four of my favorite Michelin-starred chefs: Guy Martin at Grand Véfour, the late Bernard Loiseau at Relais Loiseau, Alain Passard at L’Arpège and Alain Ducasse at Plaza Athénée. In 2006, he launched his flagship restaurant, Mirazur — a name derived from the Spanish words mirar (to look) and azur (blue) — which appropriately describes its location overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from a terraced, 1930s modernist watch tower at the foot of the mountains in Menton, France, near the Italian border. This restaurant boasts three Michelin stars.
