Up Norway invites travelers to fully immerse themselves in local life across the country with its new Coastal, Rural and Urban Norway Journey. Authentic experiences are curated for travelers during this immersive eight-day journey, ideal for families and small groups that enjoy slow travel. All along the journey, travelers engage with local communities and delve into Norway’s nature, food, soft adventure and more.
Rural
When travelers arrive in Trondheim, they pick up their own Polestar electric car before heading north to rural Inderøy. This region is full of forest-lined coasts, sparkling fjords and other natural gems. Along The Golden Road’s loop are activities and attractions centered around food, beer, spirits and handicrafts. This October, the region hosts the World Cheese Awards. Highlights include award-winning cheeses and pairings with local juices.
Coastal
Next, travelers make their way to Veiholmen, located off Edøy on the island of Smøla by boat. In this small town with a community of just less than 100 people, a local host escorts travelers to their village home. Later, on a vævandring or ramble, an introduction to the community offers insights to the village’s history and its local people through småtta, or short cuts through private gardens. Dinner at Naustet, the oldest of Veiholmen’s boathouses dating back to the 1700s, includes local specialties like pickled herring and saltfish dumplings. Throughout the trip, travelers have the chance to row in a traditional Viking-style boat and kayak around the archipelago to spot wildlife like seabirds and seals, as well as giant fishing pens.
Urban
The final leg of the journey explores the small city life of Trondheim. As a gastronomic hub, foodies enjoy dinner at Michelin-starred Speilsalen, where the food creations represent pieces of art. The city’s iconic wooden buildings are home to specialty shops, trendy bars and restaurants best seen through private tours floating down the Nidelven river.

Sep 17, 2026High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture
It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
