A new collaboration between low-cost airline Air Arabia and air travel powerhouse Etihad will result in a new low-cost airline in the region.
Named Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, the new airline comes at a time when demand for affordable air options is growing, especially in the Gulf region.
Instead of focusing on a previous endeavor, creating a global network of smaller airlines, Etihad’s venture with Air Arabia is a safer move for the airline as less risk is involved with one airline compared to a handful of low-cost carriers. Etihad may even move some of its existing planes to the new airline’s fleet.
Based in Abu Dhabi as the name indicates, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will serve the Gulf region, including the United Arab Emirates and India. Since the grounding of India-based Jet Airways, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi has an opening to move into the region with an already installed customer base.
Air Arabia Abu Dhabi will be the UAE’s fifth airline and first low-cost airline.
